Voices of the Future: Involving Children in Global Policymaking

Giving future generations a seat at the table today

Vision

Imagine a world where the ideas of youth aren't just heard — they're amplified like a viral TikTok, shaping policies, communities, and our shared future. Because who better to dream up tomorrow than the ones who'll live it?

Purpose

To empower young voices to speak, innovate, and lead by creating platforms and programs that transform their ideas into actionable change. No more "someday when you're older"! If teens can build entire civilizations in Minecraft, they can probably handle some policy decisions.

Participation Pathways

(comment on your favorites/challenge the odd ones)

Me Level: Personal Empowerment

  • Kid-to-Adult Power Moves: As a kid, step up and tell the adults in your life: "Even though I'm smaller, my ideas are BIG! Here's why you should listen..." Pro tip: Add a drawing or clever pitch for extra impact.
  • Idea Mining: If you're an adult, flip the script and ask a kid for advice. Whether it's solving a tricky work problem or picking the best ice cream flavor for your party, their fresh perspective could surprise you.
  • Question Time: Share a practical issue you're stuck on with a young one — from how to organize your desk to world peace solutions. Then really listen. Their unfiltered thinking is like brainstorming on turbo mode.
  • Play Shark Tank: Host a mini "Shark Tank" or "World President" game during sleepovers or family nights. Let kids pitch big ideas — from silly inventions like "jet-powered rollerblades" to game-changing policies like "change the world through games"
  • Designate a 'Wisdom Day': Pick a day where kids in your life get to play mentor. Reverse the roles: they're the coach, you're the student. Ask them about their vision for your daily challenges, and take notes like it's a TED Talk.
  • Endless Minds, Endless Ideas: Encourage kids to write an "idea diary" or draw their dreams. Share those ideas with your network (with their permission!) to show them their creativity matters in the real world.
  • "Solve the World" Family Dinner Chats: Over dinner, ask, "If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?" Let the conversation flow — and don't dismiss even the wildest ideas.
  • "Vote for Me" Practice Runs: Encourage kids to practice persuasive speaking by presenting ideas as if they're campaigning to lead their classroom, home, or the world. Clap loudly, take notes, and make them feel like their voice is a game-changer. Because it is!

We Level: Humanity Adaptation

  • School Takeover (Legally): Transform your school into a democracy for a day! Let students vote on fun topics like new lunchtime activities, school clubs, or even "Best Theme for Spirit Week." Empower kids to propose ideas and debate them during "Student Congress Hour." Principals, relax — this is organized chaos (and a civics lesson in disguise).
  • Microphone for the Mind: Install suggestion boxes or digital idea platforms in schools, libraries, and community centers. Every idea, no matter how wild ("Flying buses!"), gets reviewed, and the best ones get shoutouts or funding.
  • Pitch It Fresh: Host neighborhood "Youth Idea Showcases" where kids pitch solutions to local challenges — from recycling programs to park clean-ups. Bonus: Invite city leaders or business owners to judge (and make them wear goofy hats for kid-approval authenticity). Winners might get funding and mentoring.
  • Student-Led Impact Days: declare a day where kids take over the world... okay, just their communities (for now). From planting butterfly-friendly gardens to school-wide TikTok dance challenges, kids lead the charge. Pair kids with adults to make sure things don't get way too wild (adults obviously will go wild).
  • Neighborhood Dream Boards: Put up giant chalkboards or murals in parks where kids can scribble dreams like "A slide from my house to school" or "A dog park with free ice cream." Once the doodles are in, hold a community meeting to discuss which ideas are realistic and which ones we should sell to Netflix.
  • Citywide Idea Campaign: call it "What's Your Dream?" and challenge kids to submit artwork or videos showcasing their bold ideas for a better city. Imagine little Timmy's plan for a "puppy rental cafe" on billboards, or a mural of Sally's "climate-friendly bubble cars" downtown. It's visionary, it's colorful, and it might just work.
  • Kindness Currency Initiative: create a system where kids earn "kindness credits" for good deeds, like helping grandma carry groceries or tutoring their little brother without a single kick. Credits can be traded for cool perks like movie nights, candy, or a "kindness crown" to wear in the next school assembly.

Universe Level: Cosmic Connection

  • Galactic Idea Broadcast: Beam the most creative youth ideas into space with messages like "Earth's kids say hi!" and "Here's our 5-step plan to end intergalactic boredom." Bonus: Include a holographic dance-off invite for alien allies.
  • Time Capsule for 3025: Create a capsule filled with today's best youth ideas, memes, and TikTok trends. Bury it with the tagline: "Dear future Earthlings (and maybe aliens), here's what we thought would change the world."
  • Star Symphony Project: Kids create music using sounds from Earth and outer space (like pulsars or dolphin chirps). The resulting "Earth Meets Universe" anthem is shared with the cosmos — and probably goes platinum on Sirius.
  • Guidelines for Robots and AI: Youth draft a "Code of Kindness" for future AI and robots, ensuring they all come pre-programmed with empathy and love. For Example: Robots must always ask, "would you like to drop work - and party?"
  • Adopt a Star Program: Kids can adopt stars, name them, and write letters imagining what life might be like in their faraway galaxy. "Dear Starshine, I hope your planet has pizza!".

Policy Song: Kids Rule, Grownups Drool

*sing it from your heart*

Verse 1: They say we're too young, too glued to our phones But we're building solutions while they're making memes wrong Got fresh perspectives that they keep ignoring Sorry not sorry, but your way is boring

Chorus: Kids rule, grownups drool! Still using Facebook, that's not cool We're fixing problems with our tools While they're stuck on ancient rules

Verse 2: The future's callin', it's got no brakes, Young minds sparkin' big-time shakes. Ideas are rollin', like waves on the shore, The world needs thinkers — and it needs more!"

Chorus: Kids rule, grownups drool! Still using Facebook, that's not cool We're fixing problems with our tools While they're stuck on ancient rules

Bridge: Kids rule, grownups drool! But hey, let's make it cool Together we can build it new Just let us show you what to do

Outro: So here's the deal, it's pretty clear The future's now, the kids are here We'll fix your mess, don't you stress Just hand over the Wi-Fi password And watch us do our best!
